On the Existence and Stability of Solutions in Self-Organizing Cortical Maps∗
نویسنده
چکیده
We analyze the dynamics of self-organizing cortical maps under the influence of external stimuli. We show that if the map is a contraction, then the system has a unique equilibrium which is globally asymptotically stable; consequently the system acts as a stable encoder of external input stimuli. The system converges to a fixed point representing the steady-state of the neural activity which has as an upper bound the superposition of the spatial integrals of the weight function between neighboring neurons and the stimulus autocorrelation function. The proposed theory also includes nontrivial interesting solutions. key words: stability and existence condition, self-organizing cortical map, fixed point theorem, system of integro-differential equations

Green Product Consumers Segmentation Using Self-Organizing Maps in Iran
This study aims to segment the market based on demographical, psychological, and behavioral variables, and seeks to investigate their relationship with green consumer behavior. In this research, self-organizing maps are used to segment and to determine the features of green consumer behavior. This was a survey type of research study in which eight variables were selected from the demographical,...
متن کاملSteel Consumption Forecasting Using Nonlinear Pattern Recognition Model Based on Self-Organizing Maps
Steel consumption is a critical factor affecting pricing decisions and a key element to achieve sustainable industrial development. Forecasting future trends of steel consumption based on analysis of nonlinear patterns using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques is the main purpose of this paper. Because there are several features affecting target variable which make the analysis of relations...
متن کاملWhat , if anything , are topological maps for ? Stuart
What, if anything, is the functional significance of spatial patterning in cortical feature maps? We ask this question of four major theories of cortical map formation: self-organizing maps, wiring optimization, place coding, and reaction-diffusion. We argue that i) self-organizing maps yield spatial patterning only as a byproduct of efficient mechanisms for developing environmentally appropria...
متن کاملLandforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data
During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...

The aim of this work is to use Self Organizing Map (SOM) for clustering of locomotion kinetic characteristics in normal and Parkinson’s disease. The classification and analysis of the kinematic characteristics of human locomotion has been greatly increased by the use of artificial neural networks in recent years. The proposed methodology aims at overcoming the constraints of traditional analysi...
